(PHOTOS) Requiem mass for Tuju’s mother held at All Saints Cathedral ahead of her burial

The family and friends of the later Mama Mary Goretti Ogola Odiyo Tuju, the mother to Jubilee Party secretary-general Raphael Tuju has been held at All Saints Cathedral church.

Several leaders including JP Vice-Chairperson David Murathe attended the service on Friday.

Mama Mary Goretti will be laid to rest on Saturday in Rarieda Constituency, Siaya County, and various family friends as well politicians are expected to attend.

Mama Mary, 87, passed on at Karen Hospital at 8.30pm on Wednesday last week after being on life support for 56 days.

The family described Mama Mary as its matriarch.

“The family thanks the great team of doctors and nurses from Karen Hospital who took care of her excellently,” it said.

“Mama passed on peacefully at 8.30pm on Wednesday surrounded by some members of her family,” the family said.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is among the leaders who eulogised Mama Mary, saying that she was a hardworking community leader and elder who greatly valued and supported education as the foundation of life.

“Mama Mary was a known and highly respected community leader who believed in the virtues and benefits of education,” the President said.
