Sidian Bank has announced a Sh1.5 million Gold sponsorship for the AGC Tenwek Hospital Charity Golf Tournament, demonstrating its commitment to improving healthcare access and transforming paediatric care in Kenya’s South Rift region.

Held at the Kericho Golf Club, the high-profile fundraising event brought together corporate leaders, golfers, and community stakeholders to support vulnerable children. All proceeds from the tournament will fund the “Hearts in Motion 2026” initiative, specifically the establishment of a new dedicated paediatric unit at AGC Tenwek Hospital.

Speaking during an interview at the golfing event, Sidian Bank CEO John Okulo said: “We have been able to partner with Tenwek and other corporates on this worthy cause of raising funds to support some of the work that they have been doing.

The region experiences many cases of malnutrition, and, before even getting any healthcare, patients first need to be nourished before being treated. As a bank, it is important to participate in this activity as part of our contribution to society.”

The new unit will feature a Malnutrition and Child Development Clinic and a Compassionate Paediatric Fund, designed to bridge critical care gaps by providing specialised, timely interventions for children suffering from severe undernutrition and complex medical conditions.

“Rural populations in Kenya face immense barriers to accessing quality healthcare, often forcing families to delay treatment until conditions become critical,” said Judith Malel, Director of Fundraising and Development at AGC Tenwek Hospital.

“We absorb approximately Sh4 million monthly in uncompensated care to protect vulnerable families. Sidian Bank’s generous Sh1.5 million sponsorship as a Gold partner is a transformative step that ensures high-risk paediatric patients receive life-saving interventions regardless of their economic background.”

Paediatric malnutrition remains a pressing yet often overlooked crisis in the region. Recent hospital data shows that at least 20 children arrive each month—more than 240 annually—with severe malnutrition, significantly increasing surgical risks, prolonging recovery, and elevating mortality rates.

Sidian Bank’s investment will directly support early nutrition screenings, therapeutic feeding programmes, and emergency surgeries to stabilise these children.

As the only Level 6 referral hospital in the South Rift, AGC Tenwek serves patients from Bomet, Kericho, Narok, and Kisii counties, as well as from across the broader East African region. The Charity Golf Tournament forms a cornerstone of the hospital’s 2026 fundraising strategy, which also includes an executive dinner, medical outreaches, and a charity run.
