Videos seen by the Star showed protesters breaking glass on the building before police officers came into rescue.

The building was also torched.

Blackened walls and twisted metal now replaced the vibrant storefronts that once lined this bustling commercial artery.

The debris of shattered glass and burnt-out structures are all that remains of the businesses that once thrived.

Supermarkets and shops along Ronald Ngala, and City Hall Way among others were among the most affected in Nairobi CBD.

Naivas supermarket along Ronald Ngala and Carrefour supermarket were vandalized.

Crowds of people were seen walking with a lot of household items, furniture,electronics to paint a picture of the losses incurred.
