34 in ICU as two more succumb to virus

Thirty- four patients have been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit due to Covid-19 complications, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has said.

From the number, 15 are on ventilator support, 17  on supplemental oxygen,

In a statement on Wednesday, Kagwe said 12 patients who are on supplemental oxygen are in general wards and four in high dependency unit.

The CS confirmed that 173 more people had tested positive for the virus from a sample size of 3,784 tests conducted in 24 hours.

This represents a positivity rate of 4.5 per cent.

The new cases comprised of 153 Kenyans and 20 foreign nationals aged between one and 81 years old.

Meanwhile the death toll continued to rise after two more patients succumbed to the virus. The total Kenyans lost due to the disease now stands at 1,791.

There are 353 patients currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 1,283 are on home based isolation and care.

186 patients have recovered from the disease. 163 from the home based isolation and care, while 23 are from various facilities. The total recoveries now stand at 84,728.

In terms of distribution of cases per county, Nairobi has 133 cases, Mombasa 7, Uasin Gishu 5, Kiambu 4, Nakuru 4, Machakos 3, Makueni 3, Migori 3, Kajiado 2, Kericho 2, Kilifi 2, Kisumu 2, Kakamega 1, Homa Bay 1 and Siaya 1.
