Moses Omondi has secured the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket for the Ugunja parliamentary seat following party nominations held on Friday. He will represent ODM in the November 29 by-election.

Omondi, a former constituency manager for ex-MP and current Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, won the nomination with 5,329 votes.

His closest challenger, Joseph Aluru, garnered 2,789 votes, while Fredrick Z.B. Owino received 1,336.

Returning Officer Felix Ngala announced the results at the tallying centre, confirming Omondi as the party’s flag bearer after votes from all polling stations were counted.

The victory positions Omondi as the frontrunner to succeed Wandayi, whose appointment to the Cabinet created the vacancy.

He extended an olive branch to his two rivals, urging them to join his campaign for the upcoming by-election.

The nomination attracted keen attention, given ODM’s dominance in Ugunja and the significance of filling Wandayi’s seat.

With the ticket secured, Omondi is expected to shift focus to the campaign trail ahead of the November 29 by-election, where more than five candidates are already eyeing the seat on various party tickets.

Speaking shortly after being announced the winner, Omondi thanked God for the victory and thanked ODM members for their confidence in him and promised to advance the constituency’s development agenda.

“I am humbled by the trust ODM members have shown in me. And I also want to thank the Party for conducting a free and fair nomination”.
