The Ford Kenya Youth League—Bungoma Chapter—has removed William Chiveli from his interim role as County Chairperson.
In a decisive move reached through a majority vote of no confidence, the youth delegates appointed Denis Ngoni from Kabuchai Constituency to take over in an acting capacity, pending formal grassroots elections.
“This marks a turning point. Leadership must reflect the energy, integrity, and aspirations of the youth, not outlive the terms of trust given to them,” said one youth leader involved in the deliberations.
His removal signals mounting pressure within Ford Kenya's youth structures to enforce accountability and realign leadership with the party's constitutional values.
Addressing the media on Monday, members of the Bungoma Youth League called for a broader shake-up of the Ford Kenya Youth League at the national level.
They argued that some current leaders no longer qualify as “youth” under both the party’s constitution and Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.
According to Chapter 6, Article 150 of Ford Kenya’s constitution, members of the Youth and Student League must be below the age of 36. Similarly, Article 260 of the Kenyan Constitution defines a youth as someone aged between 18 and 35 years.
“The time has come for the Ford Kenya Youth League to be led by the youth, for the youth—leaders who genuinely reflect the vision and urgency of young people across this great party,” read a statement from the delegates.
The group is now urging Ford Kenya Party Leader and Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, to expedite grassroots elections.
They are also advocating for meaningful structural reforms to ensure genuine youth representation and participation within the party hierarchy.
As the party prepares for internal elections, the developments in Bungoma could set the stage for similar youth-led demands across other counties.
