ODM engagement with the President William Ruto administration is a push for what the Gen Zs were clamouring for, ODM deputy leader Godfrey Osotsi has said.

Osotsi said attacks on opposition chief Raila Odinga over an MoU the party signed with the Kenya Kwanza administration were misplaced as the deal seeks to address the very issues that were raised by the Gen Z during the anti-government protests.

Osotsi however said the government has not addressed any of the 10 issues agreed upon in the MoU.

“We should be pushing for implementation of the 10- point agenda pact and not blaming Raila,” he said.

He spoke at the Yearly Meeting of Friends Church Vokoli in Sabatia constituency.

He said Raila had appointed him to monitor the implementation of the MoU.

The 10 points included; addressing the high cost of living, full implementation of National Dialogue Committee report, inclusivity in budgetary allocations and public appointments, protect and strengthen devolution, economic investment in the youth, leadership, integrity and end of opulence.

Others are right to peaceful assembly, compensation of all pending claims of rights victims, audit of national debt and how it was used, fight corruption, protect sovereignty of the people, stop abductions, respect constitutionalism and rule of law and respect press freedom.

“These 10 issues are the reason why we went out to demonstrate and that is what the Gen Zs went out to protest,” he said.

Osotsi who is Vihiga Senator, asked elected leaders to read and understand its content and meaning and focus on service delivery to the people rather than blaming Raila for accepting to work with government.

He said elected leaders have a responsibility to walk with their electorate.

Leaders from Western should be interrogating the 2025-2026 financial year budget to establish whether there are allocations targeted at the region’s development or not.

“People who should be doing this are the people who sit in the National Assembly. If there’s nothing for Western don’t come here and tell us about Ruto or Raila. Work for the people. Don’t come out here begin crying to the same people,” he said.

ODM party will grow stronger in Western coming days, he said, adding that the party has already held its grassroots elections at the subcounties and it is now planning for county and national elections.
