Kakamega youth leader Ian Washika has lauded the move by the county government of Kakamega to distribute drugs to hospitals saying it is a step in the right direction as far as serving residents is concerned.
Wasike said the distribution of drugs in the hospitals will give residents much-needed relief since quality treatment enables them to continue with their work.
His reaction came after the Kakamega County Referral Hospital received medicine worth Sh34 million.
"As youth, we are proud of the drug distribution. We raised our voices on the need to see the hospital run swiftly. It is laudable that Dr David Alila flagged a consignment of Sh34 million drugs to the hospital including our referral hospital," Washika told the Star in an interview.
He went on to rally the youth to remain firm in advocating for good governance saying it is a key recipe for good governance.
Washika said good governance can not be achieved if the youth don't stand firm to demand for their rights and hold leaders accountable.
He challenged the youth to play an active role in ensuring leaders perform their duties diligently.
"We must rise to the occasion and do what it takes to make sure we are part of the conversation that can change the society. We must hold leaders to account and when the time comes we should enter the race for elective posts," he added.
