Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has disagreed with the decision to deny his devolved unit the Equalization Fund by classifying it among the rich counties.

Osotsi told the Star via the phone that Vihiga county is poorer compared to other counties like Kakamega, Mombasa, Nairobi and it deserves to benefit from the fund.

The lawmaker said disqualifying Vihiga from the list will impact negatively on development and service delivery to the residents.

He said as a resident and the senator for Vihiga, he does not agree with the decision to deny his county the Equalization Fund.

"I have seen that Vihiga county is among the counties that will miss the Equalization Fund. I have raised that concern with the Senate, asking for all counties to get their share," Osotsi said.

"There is no way counties like Nairobi, Kakamega, Kisumu and Busia can get the Equalization Fund and leave out Vihiga county. That law must be looked into properly," he said.

He blamed Members of Parliament from Vihiga county who are in the Kenya Kwanza government for failing to defend their county from losing the Equalization Fund.

Osotsi said the MPs were supposed to oppose the bill to ensure all counties get their share of the Equalization Fund.

"I blame our MPs from Vihiga for allowing Vihiga county to be denied the Equalization Fund. They should have defended their county," Osotsi said.
