President Uhuru Kenyatta's successor will not achieve much due to budget constrains, Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has said.
Governor Ottichilo said the country's economic status will only give room to service loans.
"The incoming president will have to focus on reviving our economy as it is struggling," he said.
"For us to revive our economy, we need to repay our debts, which have now gone beyond our GDP," he added.
The governor said with the ongoing campaigns, most of the pledges aspirants are giving to residents will be an uphill task to achieve given the country's economic situation.
Ottichilo said if ODM leader Raila Odinga takes over the country leadership, he will have no choice but to relook at the budget and develop a realistic one, which the government will fund through revenue.
He further said corruption loopholes should be sealed to ensure all government money is accounted for.
"The incoming president will have no choice but to cut down on the appetite for borrowing to give room to service the current loans," he said.
"We have over-borrowed but what we have achieved is less compared to the debt we have," he added.
Ottichilo said Kenya's economy needs a president with managerial and accounting skills to revive it.
"We need a leader who will understand the principles of economy to restore our economy and tame corruption," he said.
The county boss blamed corruption for the country's economic situation.
He, however, said the situation can be improved if Kenyans elect sober leaders in August.
Ottichilo spoke at Emanyinya village, where he was hosting Emuhaya and Luanda residents at his home.
He urged them to give him a second term to continue developing the county.
"I have set all the required structures in place for the government and it's time now to show people how the government is run. So please reelect me."
He said it won't be fair for him to set up all that then someone comes to enjoy what he has prepared.
