Bungoma county plans to include Nzoia sugar industry in its manufacturing lists immediately after Governor Wycliffe Wangamati wins the election, department of Roads Executive Collins Mukhongo has said.

Speaking to the press on Friday, Mukhongo affirmed that Wangamati’s administration will focus on manufacturing sectors after they beat senate speaker Ken Lusaka in the August general election.

He said Bungoma is an agricultural county and it needs manufacturing industries to ensure that own produce is processed there.

“We are having a competitor who is senate speaker Ken Lusaka. I want to assure Bungoma that Wangamati has good plans for the youths and Bungoma at large,” Mukhongo added.

He said the  governor will inject funds to revive the factory, adding that it will open up employment opportunities for youths within Bungoma and its environs.

The county Executive said Senator Moses Wetang’ula has been in leadership for a long time but he has failed to help the sugar sector in the region.

“Senator Wetang'ula has been in leadership for many years and he has delivered nothing. I don't know why he wants Lusaka to help Bungoma," he said.

He said under Wangamati, he has been able to initiate projects that have positively changed the lives of residents among them the dual- carriage way, renovation of the Bungoma county referral hospital, building of the 300 bed maternity wing, the eye unit that is yet to be launched, giving residents NHIF cover and building of the Kanduyi stadium that will give avenues for youths to practice in games and sports.

He said Bungoma's population now stands at 1.8 million people, adding that the county needs facilities that will help residents access quality health care.
