Police in Navakholo, Kakamega county, are holding a class six pupil for allegedly killing a 10-year-old boy for eating his lunch of ugali and kunde.
The suspect is reported to have attacked and killed the 10 year old on suspicion that he ate his ugali with kunde on Thursday.
Chief Joseph Omakete said the suspect confessed to the killing.
He said he discovered that his lunch was missing when he returned home from school for lunch.
He said he found the boy grazing his father's cattle and attacked him and threw his body in River Simakina.
"The pupil admitted having killed the deceased and led the school head teacher to the scene where his body was found in water," he said.
Navakholo division police commander Richard Omanga confirmed the incident.
He said that the suspect could have hit the deceased with a blunt object because the body had injuries on the head.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Kakamega County General Hospital mortuary to await a postmortem.
