Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has launched new projects worth over Sh2 billion, stating he has fulfilled nearly all his pledges as his second term nears its end.

The initiatives, supported by the national government, include a Sh400 million market, a Sh200 million main bus park, the Kipchoge Keino Stadium and a new wing for Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

Sang said he had proved his critics wrong.

“I can now comfortably say that next time you can trust me because I told you about the stadium, the market, the bus station and new roads, along with the upcoming hospital and all that is now underway. Trust me because I will never do anything that is wrong for our country,” he stated.

He thanked President William Ruto for his support, noting, “It’s now clear that I am almost through with all the debts I had in this county.”

The governor spoke during the groundbreaking for the ultra-modern Kipchoge Keino Stadium, graced by Defence CS Soipan Tuya, whose presence highlighted the project's national importance.

Sang detailed the stadium’s features, including a World Athletics–certified tartan track, a 10,000-seat capacity expandable to 15,000 and a FIFA/CAF-compliant football pitch.

“The design incorporates state-of-the-art LED floodlights with plans for solar integration, ensuring sustainability while enabling night events. Spectators and guests will enjoy VIP and VVIP lounges, hospitality boxes and a comprehensive media and press centre designed to support high-quality broadcasting and reporting,” Sang said.

He described it as a high-performance environment for athletes, complete with warm-up areas, a gymnasium and an accommodation block, that will help to develop athletics.

“The inclusion of an accommodation block for training camps means teams and athletes can train conveniently and comfortably within the same complex,” he explained.

The project also includes expanded parking, improved roads and enhanced security.

“This is not just an investment in infrastructure, it is an investment in our youth, our economy and our identity as a county known for producing world-class athletes,” Sang said.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to President Ruto for these transformative initiatives. His vision and commitment have made it possible for us to embark on this journey toward creating a premier sports facility that will serve generations to come.”

The governor also indicated that he is in consultation with residents on his next steps, with some urging him to run for Aldai MP or Senator.

“My main focus now is to campaign for the President’s second term because I believe he has a great vision for this country. As for my political future, I will consult with the people of Nandi at the right time.”
