Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has reaffirmed his
administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, positioning it as a
cornerstone for the county’s economic transformation.
On Tuesday, Sang presided over the graduation of 650 youth
from across the county who completed transformative vocational training programmes.
The milestone marks a significant step in the county’s drive to equip its youth
with practical skills that can uplift individual livelihoods and stimulate
grassroots development.
“These young men and women represent the vibrant promise of
Nandi,” said Sang during the ceremony. “They are now skilled, empowered and
ready to drive tangible transformation right from the grassroots level.”
The graduating cohorts included 350 trainees from the KCB
Foundation’s flagship Tujiajiri programme—run in collaboration with Nandi’s
Vocational Training Centres—and another 300 graduates from the newly revitalised
Nandi County Youth Service.
The governor said the event was not only a celebration of
personal achievement, but also a symbol of collective progress for the county.
“This graduation is a powerful testament to what
partnerships rooted in vision and purpose can achieve. Through our
collaboration with the KCB Foundation, we are equipping our youth with the
tools they need to succeed—and to build a stronger, more resilient Nandi.”
The Tujiajiri programme offers hands-on training in key
economic sectors such as masonry, carpentry, electrical installation,
hairdressing, mechanical work and other technical trades. Sang noted that the
skills gained are vital to Nandi’s socio-economic growth.
“The certificates issued today represent more than just
credentials. They are pathways to self-reliance, seeds of entrepreneurship and
the foundation for greater economic resilience among our youth and their
communities,” the governor said.
Sang also lauded the KCB Foundation, represented at the
ceremony by Head of Programme Joblin Omari, for its continued investment in
Nandi's young people.
“To the KCB Foundation, we express our deepest appreciation
for your unwavering support and invaluable partnership. Together, we are laying
the essential groundwork for a self-sustaining and prosperous generation.”
Looking ahead, Sang outlined concrete measures his
administration is taking to deepen youth empowerment in the county.
They include scaling partnerships with institutions like the
KCB Foundation to widen training opportunities and institutionalising the Nandi
County Youth Service as a permanent driver of community-based development.
The other one is prioritising youth in county planning and
budgeting, ensuring their ideas and innovations shape the county’s future.
“We must seize every opportunity to empower our young people.
They are the heartbeat of our development agenda and the stewards of Nandi’s
tomorrow,” he said.
