In Summary
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has intensified efforts to upgrade and expand Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in response to a steady rise in enrolment.
More than 50,000 children are enrolled in ECDE units across the county. Sang affirmed the county’s commitment to ensuring all learners have access to adequate facilities and qualified teachers.
During the unveiling of the Toretmoi ECDE Centre in Koyo Ndurio, the governor said the newly commissioned facility is part of a broader countywide initiative to transform early childhood education.
The centre is a modern, child-friendly facility featuring spacious and well-ventilated classrooms, colourful learning aids, child-sized furniture and age-appropriate sanitation amenities—all designed with the young learner in mind.
Parents and teachers welcomed the development with enthusiasm.
Susan Jepkemoi, a parent, said the new centre represents more than just a building.
“We now have a modern ECDE facility right here in our community. Our children will grow up learning in a place that reflects care, respect and opportunity.”
According to Sang, the launch of the centre is part of an ambitious programme to boost ECDE infrastructure.
Recent achievements include the commissioning of 28 new ECDE centres, equipping 15 others with modern furniture and learning materials and ongoing construction of 72 additional facilities aimed at standardising units across all wards.
He also reiterated the county’s commitment to hiring enough qualified ECDE teachers to staff the new units.
“We are building for the future of our county—investing in our youngest learners so they can thrive and succeed.”
