Kitengela man kills self in house fire 'over wife'

House help told police he left with the wife on Sunday but returned without her.

A man in Kitengela’s Kyuna Estate burnt himself to death Wednesday morning after returning home without his wife.

Police report indicates that the man arrived home at 2am but withou his wife whom he left home with on Sunday.

Isinya subcounty police commander Patrick Manyasi said when the man arrived home, he went to his bedroom with several kitchen knives.

“In his room, he stabbed himself several times before calling his maid and telling her to leave the house if she did not want to die with him,” Manyasi said.

The police boss said when the house help left the house, the man went to the kitchen and lit two gas cylinders which exploded and blew up the house.

The man died in the house fire.

Police said his wife had not shown up after the incident.

“We do not know where his wife is. All we got is that he had on Sunday left with his wife only for him to return home this morning,” Manyasi said.

The police said neighbours could not attempt to extinguish the fire as it was too intense.
