Police in Naivasha are investigating an incident where a man was electrocuted by an electric fence while on his way home.
During the incident in Kinja area in Kongoni, the man who was drunk, stumbled on the electric fence leading to his death.
Nearly all farms that include ranches in the area are fenced with electric fences to keep off the high number of roaming wild animals.
A witness, John Mbuthia said the deceased who was an electrician had been drinking in Kongoni centre before the incident occurred.
He said members of the public heard a scream and on rushing to the scene found him entangled in the electric fence.
“The farm management had to be informed to disconnect the electricity supply but the man had already passed on,” he said.
Naivasha assistant county commissioner Steve Mwonge said the body was collected and taken to Naivasha mortuary.
“The man allegedly fell on an electric fence leading to his death and police have opened an inquest file following the incident,” he said.
Meanwhile, sand harvesters in Mai Mahiu Naivasha are demanding speed-bumps along the Mai Mahiu-Narok road following a rise in the number of accidents involving pedestrians.
They said since the year began, close to 10 people had been hit and killed by speeding motorists while crossing sections of the road.
According to one of the leaders James Kamau, the most affected were Mafuta Taa and Satellite sections where the youths camped waiting for lories ferrying sand.
He said they had on several occasions petitioned KeNHA to address the situation but their pleas had fallen on deaf ears.
“We have issued a seven-day notice to KeNHA to erect speed bumps failure to which we shall block this road until our demands are met,” he warned.
