On September 20, clerk Linus Lokawa declared Christopher Nakuleu speaker of Turkana assembly unopposed after five other nominees were disqualified.

Nakuleu unsuccessfully contested the parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket and lost to Paul Nabuin of the ODM party.

Lokawa said two nominees including Abraham Losinyen and Derick Epae were disqualified because they were still holding public offices.

Losinyen and Epae took the matter to Lodwar High Court.

Justice J.K Sergon ordered the clerk to shortlist the nominees as candidates for the position of Turkana speaker.

He also ordered for fresh election for the position.

“The ruling is welcomed. Justice has finally been served. Now the MCAs have an opportunity to elect a speaker of their choice,” Losinyen told the press.

"I look forward to the election and subsequent events in bettering the legislative arm of the Turkana county government."
