Those living or farming on riparian land around Lake Naivasha have also been put on notice by the subcounty disaster management team.
This comes barely a day after a seven-year-old boy drowned in Longonot following flash floods from the nearby Nyandarua county.
In the last couple of days, Naivasha town and its suburbs have recorded heavy rains, leading to flooding of some streets and estates.
Naivasha deputy county commissioner Mutua Kisilu was, however, quick to say that there was no reason to worry, adding that they were keenly monitoring the situation.
He said the intensity of the rains was getting higher by the day, adding that those near waterways should not take chances.
“We have already lost a minor through the flash floods and we are asking those on the riparian land or near waterways to give way,” he said.
Speaking on Wednesday, Mutua said that no damage had been reported in any part of the constituency, though the rains were affecting transport.
“We have come from a dry spell that wiped out crops in farms and the ongoing rains are major blessings to area residents,” he said.
He added that 10,000 households in the vast constituency were in dire need of food donations and water, noting that the rains had come in handy.
Farmers from Maella and Moi Ndabi welcomed the rains, saying that farming in the agriculture-rich area had been adversely affected by the dry spell.
One of the farmers, James Muturi, said that they had embarked on the process of tilling and planting after months of waiting.
He said that the farmers had incurred huge losses after their crops were wiped out, either by the dry spell or wild animals seeking pastures.
“We are grateful that the long awaited rains are here with us and we shall take full use of it by planting early,” Muturi said.
Another farmer, Peter Ndung’u, called on the government to urgently assist them with the subsidised fertiliser as promised.
“The President promised that we shall get the cheap fertiliser but we have not received even a single bag yet the rains are here with us,” he said.
