A woman who 'married' the Holy Spirit last year was buried at night by the family after she was found dead in a West Pokot forest.

Elizabeth Nalem's body was discovered on Saturday by a herds boy.

The mother of six made headlines last year after she abandoned her husband, closed her hotel and decided to wed the Holy Spirit in a white gown and veil.

There was great fanfare during the wedding and a large crowd watched.

The woman, 42, said the Holy Spirit directed her to preach the gospel and said she would be given a chopper.

Joshua Nalem confirmed he had buried his wife since there was nothing more they could do.

The family said she has has been missing for three weeks.

Nalem said they had reported her as a missing person while they searched for her.

“We were living peacefully after she returned home after the wedding,” he said.

“When I heard  the body of a woman had been found I decided to go and see it. This is when I ended the long search for my wife. She was the one since her handbag was beside her body,” he said.

Nalem said on the day his wife left home, she left behind her phone and Bible.

"She used to leave home and go on missions but she would come back, this time however, she never did. That's why we reported her as a missing person,” he said.

Kapenguria OCDP Kipkemoi Kirui said a postmortem was not carried out.

“The family and the husband swore an affidavit before the police after they declined a postmortem,” he said.

Kirui said police are still following up and if they find any foul play, the body will be exhumed.

Last year after her wedding, the woman said that God had sent her to preach the gospel. That is why she closed her hotel business since it could interrupt her new assignment.

This job doesn’t have restrictions. That's why I ask my family to relax since I will spread the Word and will be coming back to them

The woman said the Holy Spirit told her she would be given a chopper to aid in spreading the word of God in the world.

Nalem said she was directed to start her work at Amudat in Uganda but was asked to return home first.

“I was set to start preaching the word of God at Amudat but I was asked to return home and make peace before heading to the neighbouring country,” she said.

She assured her husband and children that she has not abandoned them but they should allow her do the will of God.

“This job doesn’t require restrictions. That's why I am asking my family to relax since I will be spreading the Word and coming back to them,” she said.
