Grief as form two student dies after being struck by lightning

A family in Chorlim location in Endebes Sub County in Trans Nzoia County is grieving after their three children were struck by lightning on Sunday, leaving a 20-year-old form two student dead.

Two other children sustained minor burns. They were treated at the Endebes Sub County hospital and discharged.

"My son was rushing to take shelter in his house when it started raining only to be struck by lightning. My other two small boys were struck but sustained minor burns," said their mother Emily Kika.

The 20-year-old was a student in St. Matthews Cheptendan high school.

Dan Sugu Ali, the father of the deceased, recounted how his employer informed him of the tragic news while planting maize using a tractor in the neighbourhood.

"It is one of the worst times that I have ever experienced in my life on earth, I actually didn't realize until it was over," he said.

Chorlim location Chief Ruth Ndiema confirmed the incident, saying the two received treatment at the Endebes sub-County hospital and were discharged. She said the two are in stable condition.

"We call for calmness among parents. We all mourn the sudden death of the student, " added the area chief.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kiminini cottage hospital.
