A Kajiado Woman MP aspirant has threatened to stage a demonstration of naked women to force the government to end barbaric actions against their gender.

While speaking during the Women International Day at Isara in Mashuuru subcounty, Jenipher Moinkett cited the Monday mass sexual attack by boda boda riders on a woman motorist in Nairobi on Forest Road. It happened after a traffic accident.

On Tuesday, she also called women "the most worried lot and require protection and recognition. Barbaric incidents take place daily.

“We have been pushed to the wall. We have nowhere to turn to for justice but to organise a major demo of naked women in our urban centres so we can show them our nakedness,” Moinkett said.

She said if nakedness will not satisfy "twisted minds, we have no option but to display all our private parts to them"

“We demand recognition and protection. Our women and young girls are under siege as their lives have been threatened by rogue bod boda operators, who operate with impunity,” Moinkett said.

She called on the county government to set aside funds for empowering women and young men.

“In Kajiado, the rearing of livestock is no longer sustainable. Women require economic empowerment so they can help their husbands to educate their children," Moinkett said.

"Climate change has taken a toll on our livestock. Droughts are more prolonged these days."

The guest of honour during the Women's Day function, the governor's wife, Edna Lenku, said she has fought for women's rights and empowerment since she took office in 2017.

“Our women deserve more than what they get, and I will strive to work with them so we can change their economic status,” said Edna. Her husband is Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.

Former assistant minister David Sankori said the Maasai community men should change their old beliefs and consider women as partners in marriage and not equate them with children.

“Without women, you cannot have a family and children, they play a major role in the lives of men,” he said.
