Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has begun reviving branches of the Democratic Party through which he plans to run for president.

Party officials in Rift Valley led by Daniel Mwaura said they would also reopen party offices and actively market the party and Muturi.

The officials said the party had produced the third president of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki. They said they would ensure Muturi gets backing to win the seat and revive the country's economy, as Kibaki did.

Muturi has approved the reopening of party offices that had been shut down.

“We have laid down all our plans to ensure our party and presidential candidate get adequate backing to win in next year’s polls," Mwaura said. He is chairman of the party in Uasin Gishu.

George Kakai, chairman of the DP West Pokot branch, said they would hold a series of meetings in all counties in the region. This will be followed by a campaign tour by Muturi and top party officials.

Present were Bungoma county DP branch chairman John Muyundu, his Trans Nzoia counterpart Joseph Njoroge, chairman of the Elgeyo Marakwet branch Benard Muturi and David Eswan from the Turkana branch.

They all stated their full support for Muturi in 2022.

Mwaura said Muturi has the credentials and qualities to carry on the ideals of the party founders.

He said former President Kibaki won the presidency on the platform of integrity, justice and truth. He said they believe Muturi would stand for the same principals.

The officials said the party would also unveil an economic blueprint that would take the country to the next level if Muturi wins the presidency.

“We urge all other branches to come out and back Muturi. He is equal to the task and as Kibaki did, he will strengthen the economic structures, including what President Uhuru Kenyatta has done," Njoroge said.

The officials also said they were planning to field aspirants to run for various seats in all counties in the region.
