Equity bank donates PPEs to Turkana county

Mwangi announced the bank will extend its support of the supplies by an extra one and a half year

Turkana county has received over a year's supply of personal protective equipment from Equity Bank.

The bank had been supplying the County government with the PPEs for the last one and half years.

Equity bank CEO James Mwangi announced that the bank will extend its support of the supplies by an extra one and a half year.

He said this time round, Kakuma mission hospital will receive their own consignment and won't have to share with the county government.

“In the last one and a half years, the county government has been sharing some of its supplies with the mission hospital which has been supporting the county government in combating the pandemic,” he said.

Among the donated items were gloves, facemasks and sanitisers.

He said the mission hospital has also be enlisted as a future beneficiary of the PPEs support to boost protection of health care workers handling Covid-19 patients in the larger Turkana West region.

Mwangi lauded Turkana County government for investing in its  employees and residents through prioritising health and education.

Turkana Deputy Governor Peter Lotethiro urged Equity to extend their support to the education sector by ensuring ECDE institutions are included as beneficiaries of PPEs supplies in the extended period of support expected to run until end of 2022.

Turkana Health Executive Jane Ajele said previous Covid-19 supplies donated by Equity had been of great significance in supporting the war against the global pandemic in all the subcounties.

“The supplies have increased the rate at which service is being accessed after slump in hospital attendance out of fear of contracting Covid-19,” she said.

“Equity Group had also supported blood donations drive in the previous months and participated in the sensitisation of its clients on matters quality healthcare,” Ajele said.

She urged the Equity Group to consider supporting Lodwar County referral hospital in the areas of neonatal and mental health.
