DP William Ruto's allies are pressuring President Uhuru Kenyatta to rework or abandon the Handshake to save the Jubilee Party and the Big Four Agenda from collapse.

The allies, mostly MPs from Rift Valley and Central regions, said he should appreciate the long political journey he travelled with Ruto before he was 'misled' by ODM chief Raila Odinga in the March 9, 2018, Handshake.

Partnership between Odinga and Uhuru has turned into a "bitter pill that threatens national unity yet it was aimed at uniting the country.
MP Moses Kuria

“Some of us fought so hard to have Uhuru and Ruto elected but now it's surprising that the enemy we were fighting [Raila[ is enjoying life while we are now being arrested and jailed," Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria said on Sunday.

He was referring to his arrest on Friday last week for allegedly attacking RMS reporter Joyce Mwenda during a show in which they discussed BBI.

He and others were speaking at Segero in Uasin Gishu on Sunday during a church event. Also present were Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, Soy MP Caleb Kostany, Bahati MP Kimani Kunjiri, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa and Turbo MP Janet Sitienei.

Kuria said Uhuru did not require Odinga’s backing for the Jubilee government to survive.  He said the "partnership between Odinga and Uhuru has turned into a "bitter pill that threatens national unity yet it was aimed at uniting the country. "

He added, “Let Uhuru and Ruto remember they swore before God they will remain united and that no one will die in Kenya again because of political competition. We can forget but God will not forget."

He said Jubilee had succeeded in dealing with Odinga after defeating him in 2013 and twice in 2017 but his return through the handshake was more destructive.

Ngunjiri accused President Kenyatta’s allies including Interior CS Fred Matiangi of being part of wider political scheme against the DP.

Ngunjiri claimed more than Sh18 million of public funds were wasted on the latest Kisii meeting to collect more views.

“Ruto was not nominated. He was elected and is the DP by right. His votes were put together with those of Uhuru to enable Jubilee to win. Ruto has to be respected as a leader in this country," he said.

“He [Raila] claimed that the handshake and the BBI were aimed at uniting Kenyans but now we know it is his political vehicle for 2022," Kositany said.

The MPs also said public money was funding the BBI meeting starting with the recent one in Kisii.

Ngunjiri claimed more than Sh18 million of public funds were wasted on the latest Kisii meeting to collect more views.  There was no immediate confirmation of this assertion.

Mandago praised the DP for being a "resilient and forward-looking politician who even embraced and forgave all those who caused the charges to be brought against Uhuru and him at the ICC"

He said Uhuru and Ruto should agree on how to give Odinga a retirement package so that he quits the political arena and retires peacefully.

“We agree that Odinga has done some work in this country but he has also caused serious political problems for many years," Mandago said. The MPs said they were determined to ensure that Jubilee remains strong and Ruto succeeds Kenyatta in 2022 because he has wide support countrywide.
