The tragedy occurred on the night of Friday, December 12, 2025, at Magena shopping centre. Moses Okeyo, 28, died instantly after a bullet passed through his head. Police confirmed that the bullet entered the back of his head and exited through the top of his left eye.
Okeyo worked at Riokindo Girls Secondary School, providing specialised waste management services, including emptying and cleaning septic tanks and pit latrines.
Witnesses said Okeyo was drinking with friends when he reportedly had a disagreement with a police officer attached to the Critical Infrastructure Police Unit at Nairobi headquarters.
The officer allegedly drew his Beretta pistol and shot Okeyo at close range. Other bar patrons fled for safety before regrouping and stoning the officer.
Police intervened and rescued the officer, who sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital under police guard.
Authorities recovered his pistol, loaded with 14 bullets, and a spent cartridge from the scene.
Okeyo’s body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations. Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and said the matter is under probe.
In a separate incident in Nyahururu town, a tout was stabbed to death during a dispute over money with another tout at a bus stop on Friday evening.
The deceased was stabbed in the left side of his neck above the ear and was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. Police confirmed that the assailant fled the scene, and a manhunt was underway as of Saturday.
Elsewhere, a driver and his co-driver died in a road accident along the Southern Bypass near Thogoto, Kikuyu, Kiambu county, on Saturday dawn.
The Mercedes trailer they were driving veered off the road, prompting both to jump out in an attempt to escape.
They sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The lorry traveled about 400 meters, destroying a pavement before coming to a halt.
Authorities moved the bodies to the mortuary and towed the vehicle to a local police station for investigations.
