Operations at the Kisumu County Boda Boda Association have resumed after asset financier Mogo funded the reconstruction of offices that were recently destroyed by fire, easing weeks of disruption for hundreds of motorcycle operators.
The fire had left riders without a central facility used for coordination, welfare support, conflict resolution and engagement with authorities, forcing many services to temporarily halt.
Mogo handed over the rebuilt and fully furnished offices, allowing the association to restart its daily activities and restore services critical to the county’s boda-boda sector.
Margaret Waithaka, Mogo Kenya’s Regional Manager for Nyanza, said the intervention was part of the company’s broader commitment to supporting motorcycle operators beyond financing.
She noted that their work with riders goes beyond providing motorcycles and loans.
“We also invest in their financial knowledge and support initiatives that improve their social and economic wellbeing,” Waithaka said.

The Kisumu County Boda Boda Association said it approached Mogo for assistance following the fire, citing the urgent need to restore services relied upon by its members.
The financier subsequently took up the full cost of rebuilding the facility. Association official Jacob Ogambo said the reopening marked an important step in stabilising the sector after the setback.
“The office plays a key role in organising riders and linking us with government offices, security agencies and other stakeholders. Its loss affected many operators, and its restoration allows us to function normally again,” Ogambo said.
He added that the association plans to use the reopened offices to strengthen rider organisation, promote road safety and improve engagement with partners.
The boda boda industry remains a major source of income for thousands of young people in Kisumu County, with leaders saying sustained collaboration with private sector partners is essential to improving safety, order and livelihoods within the sector.
