Interior PS Raymond Omollo has urged the Luo community to rise above traditional political affiliations and rally behind leaders committed to unity, development and national inclusion.

He said the time has come for the community to take charge of its destiny by participating meaningfully in national affairs.

The PS, who spoke during the funeral of Ruth Ochieng, the mother of Kabonyo Kanyagwal MCA Oiko Pete, in Arita village, Nyando subcounty, urged the community to shift its political mindset and embrace progressive leadership.

"We must move beyond personalities and start focusing on issues that bring tangible development. Our future cannot rely solely on individual politicians to chart the way forward," Omollo said.

The PS, decried divisive politics and urged the community to support leaders who are results-oriented and visionary.

He warned against falling prey to political opportunists who, despite occupying high offices, have failed to unite or uplift the region.

"Some of these leaders are only after personal recognition. They offer no concrete plans to transform the lives of the people they represent. It’s time we support individuals with the knowledge and will to bring real change,” Omollo said.

The PS defended the growing cooperation between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, terming it a strategic move that prioritises national cohesion and development over political rivalry.

He hailed Raila’s decision to work with Ruto as a mature and patriotic choice that could unlock development opportunities for Nyanza and other parts of the country.

“Politics should not be about endless antagonism. When leaders come together, it should be seen as a pathway to development, not betrayal,” he said.

Highlighting the progress made under Ruto’s administration, Omollo listed key pillars the government has prioritised, including agriculture, healthcare, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), digital transformation and affordable housing.

He cited the government's efforts in agriculture, such as stabilising unga prices and revitalising farming sectors like sugar cane, tea and coffee, which have directly benefited Kisumu farmers.

On healthcare, Omollo said the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA) has expanded medical coverage from five million to more than 25 million Kenyans.

“It is no longer about raising money for treatment on WhatsApp groups. Today, many families can access healthcare without financial strain,” he said.

The PS also pointed out government efforts to improve access to finance by lifting CRB blacklists and creating funds targeting small businesses and the youth.

Further, he highlighted digital transformation through the rollout of digital hubs in every ward and praised the affordable housing project for providing shelter and creating jobs.

Omollo urged Nyanza residents to seize these opportunities and support government efforts aimed at fostering development across the country.

“We have a president who is walking the talk. The question now is are we ready to walk with him for the benefit of our community?” he posed.
