Fresh details emerged of massive wastage and extravagance in the counties at a time when the devolved units are struggling to pay salaries and provide services.
Days after revelations on how county officials spent Sh17 billion on travel, it has emerged that the regional governments spent more than Sh10 billion on other non-essentials.
In the expenditure reports for the counties in the last financial year, 37 devolved units spent Sh5.12 billion on hospitality alone.
The remaining 10 counties did not provide detailed amounts spent on hospitality during the period.
Hospitality includes catering services for county staff and visitors.
