Residents of Nyamira Town are in panic following the re-emergence of a criminal gang terrorizing dwellers of the urban area.

Most affected are the residents of the Nyabite area who witnessed the brutal murder of an electrician.

The gang is believed to be behind a spate of robberies and attacks in the area.

Justine Moturi, 45, was hacked to death,  as his wife watched, by the gang that accosted them as they walked to their residence.

According to the wife, Rachel Nyang’au, her husband had asked her to accompany him to deliver medicine that was meant for his ailing mother who lives about one kilometre from their home in Nyabite Trading Center.

She said the criminals accosted them while they were returning to their home after delivering the medicine and robbed them of cash before they hacked him using machetes.

“They found us on the way as we returned from where our mother stays and flashed a spotlight into our eyes before they confronted us, demanding that we give the cash. I gave them Sh2,000 that I had but they went ahead to assault my husband by inflicting deep cuts into his shoulder and neck,” the widow narrated.

The gang earlier had also attacked two people who were going to their homes along the Kebabo area of the Nyabite.

Following the fears of rising insecurity in the area, security agencies convened an urgent public baraza in the area to discuss the way forward regarding the re-emergence of the gangs.
