South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro Thursday has defended himself against accusations that he allegedly abandoned impeached Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda in the hour of need.

On Thursday, Osoro said his support for Monda is still intact and should not be misconstrued.

"I don't have to put in the press or respond to every claim bandied in social media, just know we are working and we are still friends with him," Osoro said.

Osoro, a key Kenya Kwanza linchpin from the region has been at loggerheads with Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

Initially, he had vowed to save Monda at the Senate to assert his influence.

“I swear before God, Monda is not going anywhere, you will bring him to Nairobi with the little money you have been given… We know how to deal with it… He is not going anywhere,’’ Osoro said after MCAs impeached Monda.

However, when the motion was brought to the Senate, Osoro suffered twin blows.

The first blow was being discharged as part of Monda's defence team. The other was the ultimate loss when the motion sailed through, throwing him and some of his allies back to the drawing board.

Monda was accused of gross violation of the Constitution and law, abuse of office, gross misconduct, and offences under national law.

The DG would then lose his seat after the majority of Senators voted to uphold the four charges against him by the members of the Kisii County Assembly.

"Pursuant to article 181 of the Constitution, section 33 (7) of the County Government's Act and standing order 86 of the Senate standing orders, the senate has resolved to remove from office by impeachment Dr Robert Monda, the Deputy Governor of Kisii County and the deputy governor therefore ceases to hold office," Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said.

The deputy governor has since filed an appeal in court and awaits directions on March 26.

One petitioner has also applied for stay orders against the gazettement of the impeachment giving the deputy governor some reprieve.

Asked to comment on Arati's pick of Elijah Obebo as Deputy Governor nominee, Osoro said it would be contemptuous of the appeal filed by the deputy governor.

"I am not talking on this matter, it is already in court and Monda remains DG until the matter is heard and determined," he told the Star.

The Majority Whip said only after the final tally of the unfolding events could the victor be known.

"There is absolutely nothing. I have not been left with an egg splashed on my face. Let's wait, patience is key," Osoro told the Star in a text.
