2023 East Africa Poetic Battle Hour to enhance cohesion

Over 500 youths are expected to attend the 2023 East Africa  Poetic Hour Battle (EAPHB) in a bid to enhance cohesion among the East African community through arts and culture.

The event themed Lets go East’ is scheduled for 27th May 2023 in Kisumu and has been organized by Talent Industry Ltd.

According to Godfrey Kedogo Talent Industry Director, the event brings on board 20 top poets from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Congo, and Tanzania to compete and spark conversations on poetry as a social tool in promoting the collective identity of the East African Community.

Kedogo said through the creative use of poetry and performing arts, they have the opportunity to raise awareness, educate, and mobilize the East African population towards positive change.

He said they have partnered with the county government amongst different organisations to ensure that the event is successful.

According to the county executive member for Sports Arts and Culture Beatrice,  they recognize the crucial role that the arts and culture play in shaping society and fostering unity and a sense of belonging.

Odongo said Art has proven to be a powerful agent of change, addressing socioeconomic and political issues both within our country and beyond East Africa.

She said the East Africa Poetic Hour Battle is an exceptional event that harnesses the power of poetry and performing arts to promote the collective identity of the East African population.

"We are proud to support the East Africa Poetic Hour Battle and welcome all the talented participants from across the East African community."

This event, she added will transcend cultural, religious, and tribal boundaries, fostering economic growth and social integration across the EAC.

The CEC further noted that through this event, they aim to showcase the richness and diversity of East African talent, while simultaneously celebrating our shared values and aspirations.

"By bringing together top poets from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Congo, Burundi, and Tanzania, we are providing a platform for these gifted artists to not only showcase their skills but also to inspire and unite our communities."

Odongo also noted that this event is not only about entertainment; it is about instigating meaningful conversations on important topics such as climate change action, human rights, and peace and stability.
