Jaramogi Hospital denies negligence in woman's death

Kisumu county government has dismissed claims that a woman died at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital on Sunday evening over negligence.

This follows a video that was circulated on social media with claims that the pregnant woman had died due to negligence after attempts to have the medical workers attend to the woman turned futile.

However, the county CEC in charge of Health Gregory Ganda refuted the claims saying the video was malicious.

According to Ganda, their comprehensive investigation revealed that the lady was not expectant but had a chronic illness.

He said that the lady after being brought to the facility from Chulaimbo was received by medics at the casualty area where she was investigated and put on oxygen.

He said an ultrasound done on her ruled out the pregnancy issue.

"She was too sick to get the second test which was an x-ray and she was taken back to casualty just to try and stabilize her. But unfortunately, she died when being stabilized. The resuscitation did not work".

He assured the locals that everything was okay at the facility and there was no cause for alarm.

"We are going to look into this so that in future nobody is able to take such videos including that of people getting treatments."

JOORTH CEO George Rae reiterated the comments by the CEC saying that the deceased was found to have anaemia.

"Those people who took the videos came in from nowhere and were making noise at the emergency department. They actually molested some of the staff."

Racheal Anyango the mother of the deceased said her daughter has been sickly for quite some time.

She also added that her daughter was not pregnant but had a nine-month-old baby.

"She has been sick for some time. I cannot blame the facility for the death of my daughter. Its the work of God."
