A 30-year-old man has been killed by his cousin after they engaged in a domestic altercation at Masogo village in Kanyach-Kachar, Homa Bay Town constituency.

David Atieno was stabbed with a knife by his cousin who got annoyed after their verbal jokes turned into a quarrel leading to the disagreement.

Atieno was rushed by a family member to Marindi Sub-county hospital for medication but his condition worsened and later referred to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

He died on arrival at the hospital.

The Assistant Chief for Kanyach Kachar South Geoffrey Ndong’ said Atieno engaged in an altercation with the cousin before they began fighting.

During the fighting, his cousin stabbed him with a knife in the back.

Ndong’ said the violence resulted from a conversation in which the two were cracking jokes at each other.

“We have not yet established a good reason why they fought. The report I have is that they were discussing their own issues before one of them got annoyed,” Ndong’ said.

Speaking on the matter, Ndong said Atieno’s brother called Jack who went to intervene by separating them was also stabbed.

The suspect disappeared after attacking the two brothers.

Currently, police are looking for the suspect and undertaking investigations into the matter to ensure he is brought to book.

“The suspect disappeared after committing the offence. We reported the matter to Rodi Kopany police station for investigations,” the administrator said.

The Assistant Chief urged residents to avoid taking the law into their hands.

“We’re asking aggrieved residents to report such matters to relevant government authorities,” he added.

The body was moved to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
