Kisii governor candidate Chris Obure has urged residents to weigh each politician based on their policies and agenda, not age.

He said developed countries like the US are making progress even though they are led by aged leaders.

Obure spoke after some people said Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati should be elected the next governor because he is young.

"Age should not be used as a determinant on who will be the next governor in Kisii," Obure said in Kisii.

He is seeking to succeed Governor James Ongwae. Others in the race are Arati, Ezekiel Machogu, Senator Sam Ongeri and Manson Oyongo.

Obure, who is running on the Jubilee ticket, said if elected, he will consult residents on the projects they would like his administration to prioritise.

He said he will involve all stakeholders, including mama mboga, in development matters.

"I am assuring our people that I will offer demand-driven services if they give me an opportunity," Obure said.

He was accompanied by his running mate William Mbaka, senator candidate Omingo Magara and woman representative candidate Peris Onsarigo.

Ongeri also told off those using the campaign platform to dismiss his candidature based on his age. He is 84 years old.

"I have the experience required to head the county so those using the campaign platform to dismiss me because of my age have no vision," he said.

Earlier this year, Ongeri rubbished claims that he is too old to run for the governor, saying leadership is about experience and not age.

“Every Kenyan has a right to contest for any seat irrespective of age. Those using age to assassinate others character should stop.”

Ongeri said major democracies like America, Israel and Malaysia have been well led by aged leaders, adding that those using age to discredit leaders are misleading people.

He said brain power and experience matters a lot in leadership, adding that delivery of services cannot be politicised.

Speaking separately, Oyongo said if elected, he will ensure employment opportunities and funds disbursed to the devolved unit will be fairly distributed.

"I know residents will make an informed decision next month," he said.

The former South Mugirango MP said if he wins, his administration will harmonise taxes.

The KNC party leader said he will build good roads, improve water supply and health services.

"I understand that our people have been missing some services. I want to assure them that I will fix this if they elect me," he said.
