Kisumu business mogul Amin Gilani was on Thursday afternoon injured after being attacked by armed thugs.

From preliminary and physical reports, he sustained injuries to his mouth as he was bleeding.

Gilani, who owns Imperial Sarova Hotel, Mayfair Bakery and Imperial Express hotel was attacked on the way to his residence in Milimani estate on Thursday afternoon.

The businessman was accosted by the thugs as he waits to gain entry into his residence.

The thugs who are suspected to have been trailing Gilani however did not steal anything from him.

The attack comes in the wake of the ongoing Africities Summit in the lakeside city with more than 3,000 delegates attending the conference at Kisumu’s Jomo Kenyatta International stadium.

Gilani's son who did not reveal his names said it was true the father was attacked but in stable condition.

"I am the one with his phone. We don't want to comment further and thank God is safe. We urge residents to be careful and safe," he told the Star on phone.

Kisumu Central subcounty Police commander Anthony Maina said they have not received the report on the incident.

"We haven't got such report formally but on social media. But we will take appropriate action on the matter once official report is made at the police station," he said.

Maina added that he was working on the incident.

The police boss said security has been beefed up in the city to ensure maximum security for citizens and the guests.

On Tuesday, a criminal robbed guests of two phones at City Food Court and fled on foot.

In CCTV footage, the man dressed in a checked shirt is seen making calls from the hotel towards the entrance of the hotel before coming back and grabbing the phones on top of the table.

The victims tried to chase him but in vain.

It appeared that the thug was colluding with a motorcycle operator because, during his calls, a motorcycle arrived next to where he was standing before going back to the restaurant to grab the phones.
