Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo has dismissed reports that ODM has a secret 2022 general election line-up in Siaya county.

He said the fake report could only have been engineered by politicians interested in empty propaganda to create havoc for selfish intentions.

The report, published in one of the dailies, created the impression top party chiefs had resolved to hand Senator James Orengo the ticket for governor and make Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi his running mate.

The report suggested the ticket for Gem would be handed to Jalang'o Midiwo, the brother of the late Jakoyo Midiwo.

Odhiambo said ODM is a democratic party and cannot lose its status by resorting to opaque and secret plots.

“Anyone misleading residents that there is a predetermined line-up in ODM is a prophet of doom, as no such thing can ever and will ever exist in ODM,” he said.

In a phone interview, the legislator said party chiefs, including himself, are focusing on mobilising new voters to register.

“The issue of line-ups in Siaya ahead of the 2022 General Election is neither here nor there. As an MP, my focus is to ensure my party leader Raila Odinga gets maximum votes in Gem through the ongoing mass voter registration,” Odhiambo said.

He said politicians spreading the rumours before party primaries are held want to divert the attention of residents from registering as voters, as they know they have no numbers to face their rivals next year.

Odhiambo will defend his Gem parliamentary seat against Jalang'o and Sam Opot.
