Boda boda operators on Thursday beat and burnt a suspected motorcycle thief – and tried but failed to lynch him in a Kakamega hospital.

They then torched three houses belonging to Andrew Baraza’a stepmother and cousin.

This was after a boda boda operator was killed on Wednesday night in Kibabi and his motorcycle found with Baraza.

Baraza, 28, who is a boda boda operator in Kanduyi, was arrested after a tip-off from his collegeagues, who spotted blood on his motorbike and questioned where he was from.

He was beaten by the operators in Matete and then set ablaze.

Baraza was rescued by officers from Webuye police station on night patrol.

They rushed him to Webuye District Hospital.

On Thursday morning, the operators followed him to hospital and demanded he be released so they could kill him, but Bungoma East deputy county commissioner Khalifa Abdulahi and police officers stopped them.
