MASENO School will hold its annual national mathematics competition on Saturday, the principal has said.

“The contest will be sat, marked and prizes awarded the same day,” principal Paul Otula said in a statement yesterday.

He said the best boy and girl in forms three and four will be awarded scholarships by sponsors.

These include Brookside Dairies, Moran Publishers and Strathmore University.

Otula said prizes and certificates will be awarded in other categories.

“The objective of this contest is to popularise and demystify maths as a subject,” Otula said.

“It is also meant to create a forum for students, teachers and other stakeholders to share ideas on how to improve performance.”

The principal said schools and students gain a lot from taking part in the contest.

Previous participants have significantly improved their performance in the KCSE exam, he said.

Otula said participating teams will pay a Sh2,500 registration fee.

Schools can present as many teams as possible, he said.
