Some Isiolo leaders have accused politicians from neighbouring counties of creating instability in the county.
Led by Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya and former Governor Godana Doyo, the leaders accused the UDM party of inciting residents against the county leadership.
Speaker Abdullahi Banticha, former Isiolo South MP Abdi Koropu, Prasol Consult managing director Abduba Ido and Abdi Nyabure accompanied the two leaders.
Bonaya accused UDM of paying MCAs to skip assembly sitting during impeachment of Governor Abdi Guyo.
Nominated MCAs who supported reconciliation, were also threatened with expulsion, Bonaya said.
“I know the sponsor has interests in Isiolo and has been sponsoring chaos in our county. He must come out and tell us what his intentions are,” she said.
She said UDM is attempting to impose itself on Isiolo residents, despite its pact with UDA.
“You can’t force us to be in UDM. You can’t impeach our governor because we have refused to join your party,” Bonaya said.
The woman representative also accused state officers from Isiolo and neighbouring counties of engaging in partisan political activities.
“These are people appointed by the President and we thank him. But unfortunately, they are not doing their job. They are busy sponsoring impeachment efforts and political chaos in Isiolo,” the woman representative said.
Bonaya appealed to President William Ruto to take action against those officials.
“We will not allow our people to be incited against each other. Isiolo is home to all 42 tribes. We will not fight because of a few individuals with tribal interests. We will maintain peace and follow the law,” she said.
The allegations come amid heightened political tension in Isiolo following an unsuccessful attempt to impeach Guyo.
Speaker Banticha also dismissed claims that the Borana community is planning to abandon Ruto.
He said the community, which has a presence in
Isiolo, Tana River and Marsabit counties, remains firmly behind the President.
In Isiolo, he said, the Borana are represented by Guyo, Bonaya, and Doyo.
In Marsabit, Saku MP Dido Rasso, Moyale MP Jaldesa Guyo and Senator Mohammed Chute are the representatives. Tana Rive is represented by Senator Danson Mungatana, former Governor Hussein Dado and speaker Osman Noor.
“I want to assure the President that the Borana community, led by Guyo, Rasso and Dado, is with him,” he said.
