Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has assured Isiolo residents that the government will ensure their safety and security.
Speaking in Merti, Isiolo North, on Wednesday, Kindiki said that while the government has worked hard to resolve the issue, some challenges remain.
He said the state is working hard to ensure the people of Isiolo are safe, as well as the entire country to stop criminals from disturbing the people.
“Mambo ya usalama tumekazana nayo na hata hio shida bado imebaki lakini tutang'ang'ana nayo tuhakikishe ya kwamba Isiolo yetu na Kenya nzima imekuwa salama na wananchi wamepata usalama wa kutosha magaidi wasiwe wanahangaisha wananchi kila siku,” Kindiki said.
This loosely translates to, “We have struggled with security issues and even that problem still remains but we will ensure that our Isiolo and the whole of Kenya has become safe and the citizens have received sufficient security so that criminals do not have to worry citizens every day.”
The Deputy President further noted that the Kenya Kwanza administration believes in bringing development to the grassroots for the country to grow evenly.
He noted that there are a few things that, if gotten right, will bring development at the grassroots, and they include electricity, roads, water, and security.
Kindiki said that it is the reason the government is busy fixing electricity and building roads in the region.
“Northern Kenya was neglected for a long time by previous regimes, but we have decided to unite this region with the rest of Kenya because we are one country.”
The DP, who was on a development tour of the county inspecting some of the ongoing projects, was accompanied by Isiolo County leaders, including Governor Abdi Guyo, Mumina Bonaya (Woman Rep), Mohamed Roba (Assembly Speaker) as well as Principal Secretaries Alex Wachira (Energy), Sylvia Museiya (Wildlife), Mohamed Liban (Petroleum), security officials, and residents.
During the visit, he inspected construction works at the Sh335 million Merti Solar-Diesel Hybridisation Power Plant in Isiolo North Constituency.
