“To the Governor-elect, Allah has brought the responsibility to serve Mandera people at your door step. You have the unique opportunity to make a difference! May Allah make it easy for you.”

In March, Mahamud launched his bid for governorship at Sir Ali Muslim Club, Nairobi on a Jubilee ticket. The ticket was however, handed over to former CS Adan Mohamed.

His clan also went ahead to endorse a different candidate for governor, further complicating things for him.

He then decided to shelve his gubernatorial ambition and instead supported Hassan Noor Hassan of ODM.

Together with  Hassan and his deputy Mohamed Hussein Qaras, they traversed Mandera County as they sought votes, but they all lost to UDM candidates.

Mahamud illustrious career in the public service started when he joined the public service as a civil engineer. He went on to serve in different capacities until 2007 when he retired to join politics.

An engineer by profession, Mahamud has also served as an Ambassador of Kenya to the Arab Republic of Egypt with accreditation to Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Eritrea.

He was also a Permanent Secretary in the ministries of Regional Development, Home Affairs and Roads and Public Works.
