Eastern regional commissioner Evans Achoki has put politicians on notice over incitement.

He said security teams will deal ruthlessly with any act of lawlessness.

“We will do all that is within our powers to ensure there is peace in our counties. We will deal with any lawlessness with full force of the law,” Achoki said.

The commissioner spoke to the press at the Eastern region headquarters in Embu after the regional security and intelligence committee meeting.

He urged politicians not to incite residents nor call for demonstrations in case they feel they lost unfairly, but to seek redress in courts.

“In case you feel defeated unfairly, don’t take people on roads to demonstrate but go to the court,” Achoki said.

The commissioner said the region has received all the strategic and non-strategic election materials in all the 45 constituencies in Eastern region.

He further said 16,000 police officers will be deployed to 7,741 polling centres and 56 tallying centres in the region to provide security. “We are ready and set for the day.”

Achoki said the government has deployed air surveillance in Isiolo and Marsabit counties, adding that enough security has also been deployed in the area.

He further urged residents to wake up early in the morning to vote and go back to their homes, to wait for the results.

The commissioner also urged all candidates to be patient as they wait for the results once they vote and not to incite their followers.

He further warned residents against selling their ID cards, adding that anyone found buying ID cards will be arrested.
