Police on Monday netted a consignment of bhang at a roadblock on the Marsabit-Moyale highway in the outskirts of Marsabit town.

The drugs was destined for Nairobi from the border town of Moyale.

Marsabit Central Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Nyakwara said officers manning the barrier seized five kilograms of the drug valued at Sh200,000 that was hidden in a saloon car.

Police arrested four suspects who included a teacher. Preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle belongs to the teacher who works in a private school  in Moyale.

Police officers manning the road block at the KBC transmission station had on checking the vehicle smelled the scent of bhang.

“The officers had stopped the driver of the private car for normal inspection but in their alertness on duty they sensed some bhang smell,” he said.

At first the officers failed to locate the substance narcotic.

They took the vehicle and the suspects to Marsabit police station where after a thorough search the bhang was found concealed in the rear tubeless tyres of the vehicle.

Nyakwara said the war against drug trafficking has been intensified, adding that law enforcement agents had discovered new tricks used by peddlers.

The DCC warned of stern legal action against anybody engaging in drug trafficking.
