Seven people died in Embu county between Thursday and Saturday over murder, lynching, suicide and drinking illicit brews.

A boda boda rider and his passenger were on Thursday night killed by a gang in Mwanyari village, Mbeere south subcounty.

A suspect alleged to have been in the gang was lynched by the residents and three houses believed to belong to other suspects torched.

The rider, Isaiah Ndun’gu, and his passenger, Elizabeth Njira, were hacked to death with pangas.

A suspect was rescued by police and taken to Kiritiri police station.

He will appear in court today.

One suspect in the murder escaped.

Mbeere South police boss Mathew Ekakoro said investigations are underway.

In Shauri Yako slum, a 32-year-old man, identified only as Kariuki, was found dead under a tree.

His body was found by residents at around 6am on Friday.

Kariuki is said to have been resting under the tree after arriving home from drinking.

Residents said they suspect he drank an illicit brew.

The body was taken to the Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary.

A man fell over a perimeter fence in Kiambuthi estate on Thursday night.

Police said Douglas Munyi was resting on the wall when he lost balance and hit his head when he fell.

Separately, Isaack Muthee committed suicide at Dallas Estate in the town.

Embu town chief Titus Mugambi said Muthee was found hanging in his room.

Residents of Mukangu village in Embu North subcounty on Saturday lynched a 24-year-old man who broke into a shop and stole cigarettes.
