The donations were distributed to various schools in Nairobi slums by Public Service PS Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, (PhD) and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris on Monday.

The duo also donated free boxers to needy boys in the same schools, benefiting hundreds of the boys from humble backgrounds in various Nairobi slums.

The schools that benefited from the donations included Kibera Primary, Joash Olum Primary, Dagoretti Mixed Secondary, Komarock Girls Primary, Mathare Primary, Heidemare Primary and Junior Secondary schools. Both Dr. Imbunya and Pasaris visited all the schools for the donations.

The leaders made the donations as the country joined other nations in marking the Africa Public Service Day 2025.

The celebrations that are underway at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi are scheduled to end this Thursday.

“Today is part of the celebrations for Africa Public Service Day 2025 which is a big day observed in Africa. It has a lot of recognition within African Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. However, we have decided to have a Kenyan chapter,” Imbunya said.

Imbunya continued, “We officially launched the day’s celebrations at KICC this morning and decided to visit our children in some of the public schools in Nairobi slums. We are providing them with sanitary kits for girls and boxers for boys so as to restore their dignity as they attend classes.”

The PS said the country needs public servants to progress and its economic growth.

“We have come here also to demonstrate to these children that Public Service is what holds a country together. We are happy, and I ask Kenyans to join us in celebrating this day. Even if you are not a public servant, a public servant like a doctor, teacher, nurse and many others has served you or your loved ones,” Imbunya said.

The Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programs has since continued with the celebrations of the African Public Service Day at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku presided over the day’s launch.

''The Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programs runs the government and ensures efficiency in all government Services in the Republic of Kenya,” Ruku said.

Ruku said the services were provided by all public servants in government who serve Kenyan citizens from all corners of the country.

“It could be in county governments, commissions, the National Police Service, military, the Ministry of Public Service is here to ensure services are provided to Kenyans the way Kenyans want,” Ruku said.
