Kanjo Askaris in Nairobi will soon start having body cameras on as they enforce law and order in the capital.

Governor Johnson Sakaja on Thursday noted that the cameras will aid in putting into the limelight people who obstruct the inspectorate officers from discharging their mandate.

“We will soon introduce body cams for our askaris because many times, only a one-sided story accusing the officers is usually told,” he said.

Speaking during the state of county address at the assembly chambers, the governor said there have been a few cases in the recent past where certain quarters have taken advantage of the kanjo askaris hence hindering enforcement.

Sakaja explained that he has encouraged the Kanjo askaris to dialogue before enforcing, however, the move has been taken advantage of by some people.

“We have had unfortunate incidents where some of our officers have been attacked in the line of duty. This is unacceptable. It will not be tolerated. We must let our enforcement officers do their work,” he said.

“Obstruction of government officers fulfilling their mandate is a crime punishable by law and will be dealt with firmly. The people of Nairobi affirmed that they desired a city of order.”
