Kenya is looking forward to locally manufacturing its own passport booklets through the Public-Private partnership.
This was indicated by the Principal Secretary of Immigration and Citizen Services, Julius Bitok as he received 100,000 more new passport booklets after a two-month wait.
"We are discussing with various suppliers to have a Public-private partnership. So that we don't get passports from abroad but manufactured and printed locally," said
The move will see a drop in printing cost from the current Sh4,500.
The exercise is part of last year's promised 6.5 million passports delivery for the next five years. This was after a one-year hiatus of passport booklets.
The country is also bound to receive an extra 45-page booklet at the end of this month as 20,000 Kenyans are expected to pick up their passports immediately.
"We applied for 66-page booklets, but they were out of stock. We had to adjust and take the available 45 pages booklets," said Bitok
Kenyans are urged to collect their passports as the issuance is expected to be faster and more efficient.
