Acting Nairobi Governor, Anne Kananu has called on county members of staff to market the city more, as the festive season approaches.

Speaking on Wednesday when she received Jamaican dancehall star Shauna McKenzie known by the stage name Etana, Kananu said Nairobi has always been known for its beauty and its high time this is taken advantage of, to showcase more of what the city can offer.

“Our county has been hitting headlines for its beauty, especially in investment and business. It’s high time we took it a notch higher and show what else we can offer as we near the festive season," she said.

Etana is set to perform at the Pamoja Festival concert which will be the first biggest concert after the curfew was lifted by President Uhuru Kenyatta, last week.

COMMERCIAL HUB

Kananu noted that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Nairobi continues to be a magnet for international celebrities because of its rich culture, national parks and is a major commercial, transport and communications hub in Africa.

Trade and Tourism CEC Winnie Gathugu said she will do that which is within her powers to ensure the tourism sector in the county is revamped.

“We are working around the clock to ensure that this festive season will be one of its kind. We want to experience a bigger number of holiday-makers and international tourists than the previous years,” she said.

Other County Executive Committee members present at City Hall included; Newton Munene (ICT and E-government), Hiten Majevdia (Health) and Charles Kerich (Lands, Urban Renewal) as well as  Members of the County Assembly.

Kananu has been in-charge of the Nairobi City County following the impeachment of Governor Mike Sonko and her confirmation as Deputy governor by the Nairobi County Assembly.

Last week, the Court of Appeal dismissed Sonko's case challenging his ouster.

On Monday, however, Sonko filed another petition at the Supreme Court stopping Kananu's swearing-in as governor.
