Nairobi County Assembly Majority leader Ibrahim Abdi Hassan, also known as Guyo, has officially announced he will run for Embakasi Central MP.

Guyo who has served as Matopeni/Spring Valley MCA for almost 15 years said on Sunday he will vie on the Handshake Party ticket. The name Handshake Party has been reserved but it is not active. It is supported by both President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking at a harambee at Africa Revival Centre in Matopeni, the Jubilee MCA said he was ready to take on the task.

“I announce today in the house of God that I, Abdi Ibrahim Hassan, will vie for the constituency seat here in Embakasi Central come 2022. The time has come when you want to do better for the people. If I become Embakasi Central MP, I will deliver to the expectations of my electorate,” Guyo said.

On December 4, Guyo said he will launch an empowerment project in Embakasi Central to improve the lives of women and youths.

“The project will assist people economically and I will invite President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to launch it,” he added.

The Jubilee MCA also praised the handshake, emphasising Nairobi would have had no peace without it."

He explained that it was through handshake that fights at City Hall had ended and with the support of both Uhuru and Raila, development is now taking shape in the capital due to the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.

“Let us embrace every message from President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga at the grassroots and unite Nairobi residents. Come 2022, I believe and I know the Governor, Senator and all the 17 MPs will come from the handshake,” Guyo added.

Hailing from Isiolo county from the Sakuye Community, Guyo has been a two-term MCA under Jubilee Party and the then The National Alliance (TNA).

He also served as a councilor from 2007 to 2012.

Guyo was Minority leader from 2013 to 2017 under the administration of  Governor Evans Kidero

The 40-year-old city politician is said to have the ear of President Kenyatta.

Guyo has also led the Jubilee side of the assembly in supporting the NMS headed by director-general Mohammed Badi.

He was once a close confidant of former Governor Mike Sonko but their relationship hit rock bottom in October 2019.

As a result, the Matopeni ward rep lost the majority leader seat to Dandora III MCA Charles Thuo in November 2019, only to regain the position six months later.

Through consultation with the President and top Jubilee party officials, Guyo was involved in the journey that saw former Makadara MP Benson Mutura elected as Nairobi county assembly speaker in August 2020.
